App Number 3: planetFacts
This one was just for fun. I can’t imagine having the nerve to charge for this, so it’s in the App Store for free.
I never checked the competition before I threw this together, but I’m sure there’s a ton of apps in the App Store that give all kinds of information about the planets in our Solar System. But I wanted to make one for myself. The way I see it, If I’m going to go to all the trouble of coding it up and doing all the artwork, then I should submit it to the App Store. If anything, to be able to put it on my wife’s iPhone without going ad-hoc distribution.
I think it came out pretty nice. No frills, just the basic facts about all the planets in our Solar System. Over the past year, for some strange reason, I’ve found myself wondering how far we are from Mars and the Sun at least twice. I guess it’s just one of those conversation that you get into with friends. (OK, I guess I’m a geek.) It’s sort of a pain in the ass having to hop on the internet and Google for that. So I thought it would be handy to have the information in a dedicated app.
I do plan on adding more to the app as I get time. I’d like to be able to drill down one more level and maybe give details about the moons of the planets. The ones that have them anyway. Also, maybe add some information about the other objects in our Solar System, like Ceres and Haumea.
